How to apply for "Ausbildung" in Germany

1) Research & Choose a Profession

Start by researching the various professions available for Ausbildung. Germany offers a wide range of vocational training programs in fields like healthcare, engineering, IT, hospitality, and more. Most Ausbildung programs require at least a B1-B2 level in German, so proficiency in the language is essential.

2) Find an Ausbildung Program

Use job portals like Make it in Germany  or Jobbörse to find companies offering Ausbildung positions. Many Employers in Germany directly advertise their Ausbildung positions on their websites and also the German Chambers of Commerce (IHK) has valuable ressources. 3) Prepare Your Application

CV (Lebenslauf):

Detailed resume including your education, skills, and any relevant work experience.

Cover Letter (Anschreiben):

A well-written letter explaining why you are interested in the Ausbildung and why you are a good fit for the position.

Certificates:

Copies of your educational qualifications. If they are not in German, they should be translated and certified.

​

Language Certificate:

Proof of German language proficiency (e.g., Goethe Certificate).

4) Submit Your Application

Many companies accept applications through their online portals or via email. Start applying at least 6-12 months before the Ausbildung program starts, as the selection process can take some time. Also note Germans tyoically don't work too much in December and January. The largest hiring season for most Ausbildung programs is always in the late summer.

5) Attending Interviews

If your application is successful, you may be invited for an interview. Be prepared to answer questions about your motivation, skills, and understanding of the profession. If you pass the interview, you'll receive an offer letter. Read it carefully and ensure you understand the terms and conditions. 6) Apply for a Visa

This typically involves:

  • Have a signed Offer Letter from your future employer

  • Financial Proof / Evidence that you can financially sustain yourself during the training (e.g. blocked account). This is not needed for any of our clients.

  • Health Insurance: This in Mandatory in Germany - don't worry we got you covered. Once you have your Documents sorted sign up here FREE OF CHARGE  or let one of our colleagues assist you.

  • Visit the German Embassy / Consulate to Submit your application and attend an interview

7) Move to Germany

Once your Visa is approved you can move to Germany. Please keep in mind there are a few things you should do upon your arrival:

  1. Register your Residence at the Registration Office (Einwohnermeldeamt) within 2 weeks of your arrival

  2. Open a Bank Account (FREE one here)

  3. Start your Ausbildung

  4. Engage with your peers and colleagues and continue improving your German language skills.

  5. Stay in touch with us - we want to make sure you are doing well and do our best to assist you wherever we can.
